Evangeline Burgess Legacy Society

The Evangeline Burgess Legacy Society honors those who include Pacific Oaks in their estate plans. Your planned gift—of any amount—helps shape the future of our community and supports generations of children and families. Members of the Society enjoy the satisfaction of knowing their legacy will continue to make a meaningful impact.

There are many ways to leave your legacy:

  • Appreciated Property: Make a gift of appreciated securities or real estate to receive a significant income tax deduction and avoid capital gains taxes, all while supporting Pacific Oaks.
  • Bequest: Include Pacific Oaks in your will or living trust. Bequests cost nothing during your lifetime, reduce your taxable estate, and allow you to leave a lasting legacy.
  • Charitable Remainder Trust: Provide income to Pacific Oaks now, with the remaining asset going to your heirs later—potentially reducing gift or estate taxes.
  • Retained Life Estate: Donate your home (primary, vacation, or farm) while continuing to live there. Receive a current income tax deduction and reduce your taxable estate. You can also rent the property or receive a gift annuity.
  • Retirement Plans: Name Pacific Oaks as the beneficiary of your IRA or 401(k). This avoids income tax on the funds and provides a charitable deduction for your estate.
  • Life Insurance: Name Pacific Oaks as a full or partial beneficiary of a life insurance policy. Receive a tax deduction and make a significant impact with a relatively small investment.
  • Direct Gifts of Cash: Immediate contributions of cash are welcome and may be eligible for an income tax deduction.
  • Planned Gifts: Designate your gift to a specific program or to the Pacific Oaks Endowment Fund. Planned gifts can be tailored to meet your financial goals while ensuring the future success of Pacific Oaks College and Children’s School.
